Edit

Dola-Seedream-5.0-flash image editing from ByteDance's high-speed, cost-optimized model built for instant creation. Supports single- and multi-reference workflows with up to 10 images, precision editing, and transparent-background output - built for latency-sensitive mobile assistant apps, UGC content creation, and bulk-scale content production.

1. Introduction

Seedream 5.0 Flash Edit is the image-editing variant of Seedream 5.0 Flash (Dola-Seedream-5.0-flash), ByteDance's high-speed, cost-optimized member of the Seedream 5.0 family added in September 2026 (upstream model version dola-seedream-5-0-flash-260915). It covers the API model identifier:

  • bytedance/seedream-v5.0-flash/edit

Supply one to ten reference images and a text instruction, and the model returns a single edited or composed image — typically in 15–20 seconds at 2K. It shares Seedream 5.0 Pro's editing contract — multi-reference fusion, precise interactive edits, and transparent-background output — on a faster inference path (BytePlus ModelArk). ByteDance positions Dola-Seedream-5.0-flash for instant creation: a high-speed, cost-optimized model covering text-to-image generation, single- and multi-reference image workflows, precision editing, and layer decomposition, aimed at latency-sensitive scenarios such as mobile assistant applications, UGC content creation, and bulk-scale content production.

2. Key Features & Innovations

  • Multi-Reference Composition: Combine up to 10 reference images in one request — place a subject from one image into the scene of another, merge products, characters, and backgrounds — while keeping the untouched parts of the source intact.

  • Precise Interactive Editing: Target edits by describing locations in natural language or by coordinates, selection boxes, and arrows drawn on the input, for edits that change exactly what was asked.

  • Transparent-Background Output: With a single PNG input that carries an alpha channel and background: "transparent", the result is returned as a PNG with a transparent background — ready for compositing and sticker or product-cutout workflows.

  • Pro-Class Resolution Envelope: Output from 921,600 (1280×720) to 4,624,220 total pixels with any aspect ratio from 1:16 to 16:1, including official 2K presets such as 2816×1584 (16:9).

  • Multilingual Instructions: Edit instructions are understood in Chinese, English, and 14 further languages including Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, and Arabic.

3. Model Architecture & Technical Details

Seedream 5.0 Flash Edit runs on the Seedream 5.0 family's multimodal transformer architecture, with vision encoders reading every reference image and a diffusion-based decoder synthesizing the result on a latency-optimized inference path. Prompt optimization runs in standard mode.

Reference images are accepted as URLs or Base64 data URLs in JPEG, PNG, WEBP, BMP, TIFF, GIF, HEIC, or HEIF format, up to 30MB each, with aspect ratio within [1/16, 16]. Output is always a single image, selected by explicit WIDTH*HEIGHT size (total pixels within [921,600, 4,624,220]) or tier keyword (1K, 1.5K, 2K), in JPEG or PNG. Transparent-background mode requires exactly one input image with an alpha channel and PNG output.

Public benchmark results for the Flash snapshot are not yet available. In practice it preserves storefronts, lighting, and composition while inserting or restyling the requested elements, at a fraction of Pro's editing latency.

5. Intended Use & Applications

  • Product & Scene Compositing: Place products or characters from reference shots into new scenes for listings, ads, and social content.

  • Fast Iterative Retouching: Rapid restyle, relight, weather, and background changes inside interactive editors and mobile assistant apps where each round-trip counts.

  • UGC Content Creation: Instant photo edits, remixes, and multi-image compositions for user-generated content platforms at bulk scale.

  • Cutouts and Stickers: Transparent-background PNG output from an alpha-channel input for design assets, stickers, and overlays.

  • Brand-Consistent Variations: Keep a subject's identity consistent across many edits using multiple references in one request.

  • Localized Creative Updates: Swap or add on-image text and elements for regional versions of existing visuals.
