Toonflow is an open-source AI tool that turns stories and scripts into animated short dramas. Features AI scriptwriting, storyboarding, character and video generation.
Settings
First, open the Toonflow settings, add a provider, and import the TS configuration file we provided.

Here, we provide a selection of aggregated models. If you'd like to access more models or add the latest ones, you can visit our official website, find the model names in the Playground, and add them there.
Next, head to the Agent Configuration and select your preferred LLM. For production and general-purpose agents, we highly recommend DeepSeek V4. It offers an expansive context window, robust reasoning capabilities, and a highly competitive cost advantage.
When you finish all of this, you can start making the short drama.

Import your original novel text / script here
3. Characters & Scenes
AI will automatically identify the main characters and scenes, then generate character visual prompts based on your predefined visual guidelines, and create consistent character images that match your requirements. Here, we used the Nano Banana Pro model, which has a noticeable advantage in image output stability. You can also choose models like Seedream instead.
4. Video Production
Once all character visuals are ready, the process moves into video generation. The Director AI (what we chose as DeepSeek V4 before) reviews the script for coherence, then breaks it down into scenes and generates detailed storyboards.
5. Video workbench
Each shot is then generated based on the storyboard (Here, we used the Seedance 2.0 model.) . At this stage, you can choose between single-image mode or a start-to-end frame generation approach.
Once all the clips are generated, you can begin the final composition.Toonflow provides a simple built-in video editor, or you can download all the clips and edit them using professional video editing software.
At this point, you’ve already completed the production of an AI short drama, with the fastest workflow taking as little as half an hour. Isn’t that exciting? The efficiency of both creation and marketing is increasing dramatically and it’s time to embrace these powerful new tools.
