Skip the razor for a week and you end up doing the same check in the mirror: chin up, head turned, trying to picture the finished version. Stubble never shows you that. A photo editor pastes a beard on, and it looks pasted on.
TikTok answers what would I look like with a beard differently now. The clip is 10 seconds long, the beard grows in on your own face, and it ends on a reaction: a nod, a laugh, or a partner shouting at the screen. We tracked down the CapCut templates behind the trend, then rebuilt the clip from one photo with a prompt you can copy. We ran it on a clean-shaven man, on a woman and on a cat, then ran the whole thing in reverse for the no beard filter prank.
Key Takeaways
- The AI-labeled beard filter clips on TikTok come from an 11-second CapCut template;thegirl and cat versions are live phone effects.
- You can grow a beardonyour own photo with Seedance 2.5 in the Atlas Cloud video generator.
- 5 Facial Hair Styles by JWalkz is the template behind the biggest beard filter posts we found this year.
- The no beard filter runs the same idea in reverse, a clean shave that people use to prank their partners.
- A front-facing photo with your jawline in frame gives the most believable beard.
What Is the Beard Filter Trend on TikTok?
Search the phrase on TikTok and three different clips come up under the same name.
The first is a man picking a beard. A column of small beard icons sits beside his face, a caption asks "Which Facial Hair Suits You Best?", and each tap swaps in a new style: goatee, full beard, mustache, a long red beard, a handlebar. The clip runs about 11 seconds, carries a small AI label in the corner, and comes from a CapCut template rendered from one photo.
The biggest post we found using it is a template demo from April 18, 2026, which had passed 222,000 plays when we checked on October 30.
The second is the no beard filter. A bearded man watches his beard disappear while the person filming laughs. The posts we found cluster in July and August 2026, when a tutorial post on the clean-shave effect reached 350,000 plays. It gets its own section below.
The third is everyone else borrowing the joke. A compilation of girls trying the beard filter from October 2025 sat at 2.9 million plays, and cat owners picked up a TikTok effect that hangs a long white beard on their cat. Both lean on phone effects such as TikTok's mustache effect rather than rendered video, so the beard sits on top of the face instead of growing out of it.

How to See What You'd Look Like With a Beard in 10 Seconds
A template hands you its five styles and its timing. If you want to watch the beard grow in, in your own hair color, you need a prompt. Atlas Cloud runs Seedance 2.5, which takes one photo as the first frame and animates the next 10 seconds from your description.
We gave it a studio portrait of a clean-shaven man with shoulder-length blond hair:
Stubble shows on his chin and upper lip by 5 seconds. By 7 it has thickened into a short beard. By 9 the beard runs along his whole jaw in the same sandy color as his hair, and he gives the camera a small nod. His face, the green shirt and the off-white wall do not change, which is the part that makes it believable.
Method 1: Grow a Beard in the Atlas Cloud Video Generator
Sign in, open the Video Generation tab and follow the numbers on the screenshot:
- Stay on the Video Generation tab.
- Keep Seedance 2.5 under Models.
- Upload your photo to First Frame. Crop it to 9:16 first so the clip comes out in portrait. Leave Last Frame empty.
- Paste the prompt below into the Prompt box.
- Under Settings, pick 1080p.
- Set Duration to 10 and keep Audio on.
- Click Run.

This is the prompt behind the clip above:
plaintext1The young man from the reference image, same face, same shoulder-length blond hair, same dark green crew-neck shirt, same plain off-white studio background, head-and-shoulders framing, the camera does not move. 0-2s: he looks into the camera with a neutral expression. 2-5s: light blond stubble appears along his jaw, chin and upper lip. 5-8s: the stubble thickens into a short, neat sandy-blond beard and mustache that match his hair color. 8-10s: it fills in to a full, well-groomed beard, he tilts his chin slightly and gives a small approving nod, and the beard stays in place to the final frame. Realistic skin and hair texture, no text on screen. Sound: quiet studio room tone.
Swap the hair, the shirt and the background for whatever is in your photo and keep the time codes. Our guide to writing Seedance 2.5 prompts explains why a line like "stays in place to the final frame" matters.
Method 2: Run the Same Clip Through the Seedance 2.5 API
Making one for every guy in the group chat, or adding a beard preview to a grooming app? The API takes the same photo and the same prompt in one request.
Step 1: Create an API key. In the console, open Settings and create a key under API Keys. One key covers every model on the platform.

Step 2: Check the request format. The Atlas Cloud API docs cover authentication and the video endpoint.
Step 3: Send the request and poll. Put a public URL of your 9:16 photo in the image field:
plaintext1curl -X POST https://api.atlascloud.ai/api/v1/model/generateVideo \ 2 -H "Authorization: Bearer $ATLASCLOUD_API_KEY" \ 3 -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ 4 -d '{ 5 "model": "bytedance/seedance-2.5/image-to-video", 6 "prompt": "<paste the Method 1 prompt here>", 7 "image": "https://your-cdn.com/your-photo-9x16.jpg", 8 "duration": 10, 9 "resolution": "1080p", 10 "generate_audio": true 11 }'
The response returns a prediction ID. Poll it until the status reads completed, then download the MP4 from the outputs array:
plaintext1curl https://api.atlascloud.ai/api/v1/model/prediction/<prediction_id> \ 2 -H "Authorization: Bearer $ATLASCLOUD_API_KEY"
Same endpoint and same key for every video model, so trying the beard on another model is a one-line change to the model string.
AI Beard Filter Prompts for Men, Women and Cats
The template picks the style for you. A prompt lets you pick the style, the color and who wears it. Three variations we ran, all with the Method 1 settings.
Beard Growth Filter Prompt: Stubble, Mustache or Full Beard

The Method 1 prompt grows the beard in three stages, which makes it a beard growth filter rather than a cut. To change the result, rewrite the 5-8s and 8-10s lines and leave the rest alone:
- For a goatee, replace "a short, neat sandy-blond beard and mustache" with "a trimmed goatee and mustache, cheeks clean-shaven".
- For a mustache filter, write "a thick mustache with curled handlebar ends, chin and cheeks clean-shaven".
- For gray, write "a salt-and-pepper beard" and name the hair color so the two match.
Name the color every time. When the prompt only says "beard", the model picks a shade on its own, and a dark beard under blond hair reads as a costume.
Beard Filter on Girls: The Reaction Is the Point
NvCXZY6oOyo
The 2.9-million-play compilation works because of the faces, not the beards, so this prompt spends its last four seconds on the reaction. Her beard is in by 7 seconds, her eyebrows go up, at 8 she laughs, and a second later her hand is over her mouth. The beard stays on under her hand to the final frame.
plaintext1The young woman from the reference image, same face, same long straight dark brown hair with a center part, same bare shoulders, plain white studio background, tight head-and-shoulders framing, the camera does not move. 0-2s: she looks straight into the camera with a calm, serious expression. 2-6s: dark stubble appears along her jaw and upper lip, then thickens into a full, neatly trimmed dark brown beard and a thick mustache that match her hair color. 6-8s: she notices, raises her eyebrows and her lips twitch. 8-10s: she bursts out laughing and covers her mouth with one hand, and the beard stays in place to the final frame. Realistic skin and hair texture, no text on screen. Sound: quiet studio room tone, then her surprised laugh.
The line "tight head-and-shoulders framing, the camera does not move" is doing real work. Without it the model is free to pull back and invent the rest of the outfit.
Cat Beard Filter Prompt: The Kung Fu Master Look
BXFKphHmLgY
The cat version on TikTok comes from an effect called Hachimi Master!, which hangs a long white beard on a cat's face. One owner's clip captioned "The beard Filter challenge" is the format. Ours grows the beard over about three seconds, then has the cat straighten up and stare down the lens like it has been waiting 300 years for a student.
plaintext1The black-and-white cat from the reference image, same fur pattern, same pink nose, same head tilt, sitting on the same wooden shelf in front of the same beige striped wall, the camera does not move. 0-2s: the cat holds still and blinks slowly. 2-6s: a long, wispy white beard grows from its chin and two long white mustache strands grow out beside its nose, like an old kung fu master, until the beard reaches its chest. 6-8s: the cat straightens its head and looks into the camera with a wise, serious expression while the beard sways gently. 8-10s: it lifts one front paw and sets it down again, and the beard stays in place to the final frame. Realistic fur, natural cat movement, no text on screen. Sound: quiet room tone, one short meow at the end.
A cat already facing the camera gives the best result. Ours started with its head tilted, and the prompt had to spend two seconds straightening it.
What Would I Look Like Without a Beard? The No Beard Filter Prank
The reverse question has its own trend, and it is meaner. Someone with a beard gets shown their own clean-shaven face, and the person filming catches the reaction. Search for a remove beard filter and the template the tutorial posts link to is a split-screen: a line down the middle, bearded on one side, bare on the other. Removing the beard with a prompt looks more like an actual shave.

Our test subject did not have a beard, so we gave him one first with Seedream 5.0 Pro Edit and used that image as the first frame. If you already have a beard, your own selfie goes straight into First Frame. Either way, the razor enters at 2.5 seconds, the beard is gone by 7.5, and the last two seconds are his reaction.
plaintext1The man from the reference image, same face, same thin-framed glasses, same gray swept-back hair, same black polo shirt, same night street with a warm street lamp behind him, head-and-shoulders framing, the camera does not move. 0-2s: he looks into the camera with his full salt-and-pepper beard. 2-7s: his own hand holding an electric razor enters from the right and shaves the beard away in clean strokes, from the left cheek across the chin to the right cheek and upper lip, leaving smooth clean-shaven skin behind each stroke. 7-8.5s: the razor leaves the frame and his face is completely clean-shaven. 8.5-10s: his eyes widen behind the glasses, he raises his eyebrows and touches his bare chin in surprise, and the face stays clean-shaven to the final frame. Realistic skin texture, no text on screen. Sound: electric razor buzz, then quiet night street ambience.
The prank runs the same way as the bald filter prank: send the clip with no explanation and film the reply.
Which Beard Filter Template or Effect Is Behind Each Version?
Posts rarely name their template, and the names mislead when they do. The template that came up first when we searched "beard filter capcut" on October 30 removes a beard rather than adding one. Here is what each version runs on, as listed on the CapCut and TikTok pages on October 30, 2026.
| Version you saw | What it runs on | What happens on screen | Listed since |
|---|---|---|---|
| Man cycling through beard styles | CapCut template 5 Facial Hair Styles by JWalkz | Beard icons beside the face, five styles in 11 seconds, AI label | April 2026 |
| Clean face to short beard with a wipe | CapCut template BEARD by AI Filter | A 7-second wipe that adds a short beard, 51,000 uses | March 2025 |
| Bearded on one side, bare on the other | CapCut template BeardLess Filter | 26-second split-screen, 284,000 uses, linked by the July tutorials | May 2024 |
| Template named "beard filter" at the top of Google | CapCut template by irfanyasin | Same split-screen, but it removes the beard | May 2024 |
| Partner reaction clips filmed on a phone | TikTok effects No Beard Slider and Beardless filter | Live phone effects linked by the reaction posts | 2026 posts |
| Girls trying the beard filter | Phone effects such as TikTok's mustache effect | Facial hair added on the phone while recording | 2025 |
| Cat with a long white beard | TikTok effect Hachimi Master! | Live effect that hangs a long white beard on a cat's face | 2026 posts |
Only the first three are rendered from a photo, which is why they look like hair rather than a sticker. Each of the seven comes with its beard already chosen, and a prompt is where you get to describe it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a beard filter on TikTok?
Yes, in two forms. TikTok's own effects, like the mustache effect and No Beard Slider, work as a live facial hair filter and pin the hair to your face while you record. The clips with a small AI label come from CapCut templates such as 5 Facial Hair Styles, which render a short video from one photo. The live effects are quicker to try; the rendered clips look more like real hair.
How do I tell if I would look good with a beard?
Run the same photo through two or three styles and compare the frames at 10 seconds, the way the growth strip above does. In our runs the stubble stage changed the face far less than the full beard did, so judge the 10-second frame, not the 5-second one. To test haircuts alongside the beard, our men's hairstyle try-on guide covers that side.
Is there a beard simulator that shows growth over time?
A photo-based beard simulator shows one finished state. The clip in this article is closer to a growth simulator, because the time codes move through stubble, short beard and full beard in order. Stretch any stage by changing its line.
Does it work if I already have stubble?
Yes. Describe the stubble in the opening line, for example "same face with light stubble", so the model treats it as the starting point and the 5-8s line thickens what is already there instead of starting from bare skin.
Does the cat beard filter work on dogs?
The Hachimi Master! effect is built around cat faces, and we did not find a dog version with a real following. The prompt route does not depend on species: replace "the black-and-white cat" with a description of your dog and keep the time codes. We only ran the cat, so expect to adjust the fur and face description once or twice.
Conclusion
The beard filter trend comes down to one 11-second CapCut template, a split-screen template for the reverse prank, and a handful of live effects that cats and group chats have borrowed. All of them hand you a beard someone else chose.
One photo, one prompt and 10 seconds of Seedance 2.5 give you the beard you describe, in your own hair color, growing in at the speed you set, with a reaction at the end you wrote yourself. Run it once for the goatee, once for the full beard and once with the razor, and you will have a better answer to what would I look like with a beard than any mirror has given you.
